Tama Lane, Ph.D.

New York–trained clinical psychologist offering English-speaking therapy in Stockholm.

I work with individuals and couples navigating life transitions, identity, relationships, and the emotional complexity that often comes with living across cultures and expectations.

My clinical perspective has been shaped across multiple countries and settings—from psychiatric emergency rooms in Chicago to trauma recovery programs in New York and specialized centers supporting survivors of torture in Amman and New York City. These experiences deepened my understanding of resilience, attachment, and the emotional legacies people carry.

Today, my work focuses on therapy that is emotionally honest, culturally aware, and grounded in both science and lived experience.

Culturally aware. Internationally Informed.

Modern therapy for complex lives.

Providing English-speaking therapy for international residents, expats, and professionals seeking an English speaking therapist in Stockholm.

My Approach to Therapy

Integrative & Evidence-Based

I offer therapy for individuals and couples using an integrative, evidence-based approach grounded in clinical psychology.

My work blends psychodynamic insight, emotionally focused therapy, relational-systemic frameworks, and elements of Cognitive Behavioral Therapies to support both deep exploration and practical, sustainable change.

I incorporate tools that strengthen reflection, emotional awareness, and clarity—while helping clients understand the patterns and protective strategies shaping their emotions and relationships.

A Modern Approach to Emotional Health

My approach is active, attuned, and grounded in what research—and real life—show actually helps people heal.

I work with you in real time to understand what’s happening emotionally, make meaning of it, interrupt patterns that no longer serve you, and build the skills and capacity needed for everyday life and meaningful change.

Tailored to Your Needs

Clients often come to therapy during moments of disruption—relationship ruptures, emotional distance, major life transitions, identity shifts, work-related stress, unresolved trauma, or the exhaustion that comes from holding too much for too long. Whether you’re seeking focused support or deeper, longer-term exploration, I adapt our work to the emotional, relational, and environmental realities shaping your life. Together, we make sense of the patterns affecting your well-being, create space for what has been overwhelming or unspoken, and work toward the steadiness, clarity, and connection you want in your life.

Culturally Fluent & Globally Influenced

With clinical experience spanning New York, France, Jordan, and now Stockholm, I bring a global lens to therapy. My style is warm, collaborative, and direct. I pay close attention to how history, family systems, and culture shape emotional life—especially the layers we inherit, the identities we negotiate, and the relational patterns we learn long before we can name them.

Therapy Support Services

Couples Therapy

I support partners seeking greater emotional closeness, clearer communication, and repair after rupture—whether rooted in conflict, betrayal, stress, or long-standing disconnection.

Together, we slow down what’s happening between you, uncover deeper needs beneath the arguments, and rebuild a way of relating that feels safer and more fulfilling. My practice is inclusive of LGBTQIA+ relationships and partnerships exploring non-monogamy or open relationship structures.

Individual Therapy

I support individuals navigating anxiety, depression, burnout, grief, relational stress, and the lasting effects of trauma.

Together, we slow down and make sense of recurring patterns—especially those shaped by early attachment experiences and family systems. I also work with personality dynamics, neurodivergence, and high-functioning distress—often expressed through chronic overwhelm, perfectionism, or carrying too much alone.

Our work helps you respond with more clarity, steadiness, and self-trust.

Men’s Wellness

A space for men navigating identity, emotional resilience, and the silent weight of performance, legacy, and expectation.

Whether facing stress, emotional shutdown, intimacy struggles, fatherhood, or cultural pressures around masculinity, therapy offers a grounded opportunity for deeper insight and authentic connection. Many men present with anxiety, anger, low mood, or relational difficulties—often masked by achievement, self-reliance, or withdrawal.

Here, strength and vulnerability can coexist.

Trauma-Informed Care

Trauma is rarely a story of the past; it lives in the present—it shows up in how you think, feel, relate, and protect yourself. It can appear as anxiety, shutdown, irritability, over-achievement, emotional distance, or a constant sense of being “on guard.

My trauma-informed approach centers on safety, clarity, and integration—understanding how earlier experiences continue to shape your emotional and relational life. Together, we work to lessen trauma’s ongoing impact and build a steadier, more anchored sense of self.

Client Testimonials

  • “When I realized that I was carrying an underlying burden and that my previous coping mechanisms would not suffice, I understood that finding the right therapist would be crucial. In Tama, I discovered a compassionate and insightful guide who helped me gain a deeper understanding of myself. The work has been challenging at times, yet I have always felt that her practice is grounded in empathy and entirely free of judgement. While I recognize that much work remains, I now have a clearer understanding of the man I am and the man I am becoming. Most importantly, I no longer perceive myself as a problem to be solved, but as an individual to explore—with curiosity, care, and without judgement.”

    — Christophe, Stockholm

  • “We came to therapy carrying a lot of history from our own childhoods, and it was affecting how we understood each other. Working with Tama helped us slow down and recognize the patterns we were bringing into the relationship. At times the sessions were painful and even explosive, but Tama didn’t let us avoid the difficult moments. She noticed what was happening beneath the surface and helped us stay in the conversation.”

    — A Couple, Stockholm

  • “Moving to a new country was something I had wanted for a long time, but it turned out to be harder emotionally than I expected. I often felt lonely and a bit lost, even though things looked good on the surface. Talking with Tama helped me make sense of what I was going through. She really understands what it’s like to live between cultures, and that made our conversations feel very real and relatable.”

    — Anna, Stockholm

  • “I came to therapy during a time when work and life felt overwhelming, but what surprised me most was how quickly Tama was able to notice patterns in my thinking and behavior that had been following me for years. She has a sharp ability to connect the dots without making you feel judged. Those insights helped me understand myself in a way I hadn’t before.”
